Pastor Sonja Elise named “Anointed Voice of Change” is a Divine Voices Music Recording Artist, Voice Teacher, Off-Broadway Producer and Star of the only one woman musical tribute of the Legendary Phyllis Hyman that is approved and supported by the Hyman Family and Friends called “Strength of a Woman: A Phyllis Hyman Tribute.”
She studied Vocal Performance at Prairie View A&M University, a part of the Texas A&M University system, and had the wonderful opportunity to perform while there with Terry Ellis of En Vogue and Rikki Valentino Lafontaine formerly of The Richard Smallwood Singers. Over the years she has ministered in song along side with Kurt Carr & The Kurt Carr Singers, Nakita Clegg-Foxx, The Fountain of Praise Church Mass Choir, Sherrie Moffett-Jones,Jonathan Nelson, Melonie Daniels-Walker, James Fortune & Fiya, Donald Lawrence & The Tri-City Singers, Mighty Clouds of Joy, Sounds of Blackness featuring Ann Nesby, Kathy Taylor & Favor, Tonya Lewis Taylor.
She is an award winning lyricist and wrote the school song for Thurgood Marshall High School in Stafford, TX which led her to join ASCAP as a Songwriter and Publisher. She is a member of Sigma Alpha Iota International Music Fraternity-NY & Houston Chapter, The Recording Academy-NY & TX Chapter, Texas Christian Songwriters Association, Music Educators National Conference, NABFEME-National Association of Black Female Executive and Music and Entertainment, MAC-Manhattan Association of Cabarets, NY Blues and Jazz Society and National Jazz Museum in Harlem.
She is a recurring background vocalist for Top 15 Billboard Gospel Charting EARS Music Group Gospel Recording Artist Tonya Lewis Taylor and featured in the song “Great I Am” as a Lead Vocalist on her debut “Delayed But Not Denied” album and singing Background Vocals on her upcoming EP and recent single “I Am More Than A Conqueror!”
She is also promoting her 1st Gospel single “This Day (An Accapella Prayer)” was written by the Late Edwin Hawkins and produced by Pastor Sonja Elise in 2003 yet she did not release it until 2018. It debuted at #3 on the Reverbnation.com Gospel Chart in New York, NY in 2018 and it is still on the Top 10 in 2020. It is sold on Apple Music, Amazon.com and other music outlets worldwide.
She is also a contributing author to MizCEO Finale Book “Ain’t No Plan B” 17 Women Share Their Stories of Perseverance, Hope and Triumph where I shared about my years when I gave up singing.
